On May 19, 2024, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi met a sudden and tragic end in a helicopter crash in Iran’s mountainous province of East Azerbaijan. Ebrahim Raisi, born on December 14, 1960, in Masjed Soleiman, Iran, emerged as a prominent figure in Iranian politics. During his youth, he pursued religious studies and later attended the Shahid Motahari School to deepen his understanding of Islamic law. Raisi received a comprehensive religious education, studying under prominent clerics in Qom, the intellectual hub of Shiʿi Islam.
