Strategic IBM-Riyadh Air Collaboration Boosts AI in Air Travel

IBM Riyadh Air AI partnership propels Riyadh Air toward becoming the world’s first fully AI-native airline. This strategic collaboration integrates IBM’s advanced WatsonX platform across all operations to deliver superior guest experiences and operational excellence. As Saudi Arabia’s ambitious new carrier, Riyadh Air gears up for its inaugural flights in late 2025, leveraging this alliance to set new benchmarks in aviation.

Partnership Launch

IBM unveiled the partnership at The FII PRIORITY Miami Summit. Riyadh Air adopts WatsonX to embed AI into mission-critical areas like customer service, flight operations, and revenue management. IBM Consulting spearheads the rollout using its proven Garage methodology, which focuses on rapid prototyping and customised AI applications. The initiative stresses robust data security, privacy protections, and adherence to regulatory standards, ensuring responsible AI deployment from day one.

Agentic AI forms the core of this effort, powering autonomous bots that handle everything from personalised booking recommendations to real-time boarding assistance. IBM coordinates an extensive ecosystem, managing 59 workstreams and collaborating with over 60 partners such as Adobe, Apple, Microsoft, and FLYR Labs. This agreement extends previous IBM engagements that laid the groundwork for Riyadh Air’s digital infrastructure.

Key Operational Benefits

The partnership transforms daily airline functions with AI-driven insights. Flight planning gains precision through predictive analytics, while revenue systems optimize pricing dynamically based on market trends. Customer interactions become seamless and tailored, adapting to individual preferences for a hospitality-focused journey that reflects Saudi warmth.

Riyadh Air targets 330 million annual passengers by 2030, supporting Saudi Vision 2030‘s goal to position the Kingdom as a global aviation powerhouse. Executives underscore the vision’s potential. Adam Boukadida, Riyadh Air’s Chief Financial Officer, highlights how AI enables intelligent operations and elevated guest hospitality. Mohamad Ali, Senior Vice President and Head of IBM Consulting, commends Riyadh Air’s pioneering AI-first strategy to redefine industry standards worldwide.

Broader Strategic Goals

IBM Riyadh Air AI partnership aligns cutting-edge technology with national ambitions. Backed by the Public Investment Fund, Riyadh Air deploys a state-of-the-art fleet to connect over 100 destinations initially. It combines digital innovation with cultural authenticity, offering premium services that prioritise sustainability and passenger comfort.

This collaboration boosts efficiency and fosters a new era of travel where AI anticipates needs proactively. Riyadh Air emerges as a leader in sustainable aviation, integrating eco-friendly practices alongside its tech advancements. The partnership promises long-term growth, drawing global talent and investment to Saudi Arabia’s skies.
