Almoosa Health awards contract will transform Saudi healthcare

Almoosa Health awards contract worth SAR 657 million ($175 million) to BEC Arabia for the construction of the Al Moosa Specialist Hospital in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia. The contract covers excavation, foundations, and concrete structural work with a 24-month timeline, pushing forward the hospital’s build schedule for completion by 2028. This initiative marks another key milestone in Almoosa Health’s expansion strategy in the Eastern Province.

Project Scope and Design

The 45,000-square-meter hospital will feature 400 beds, 300 consultation clinics, and a pharmacy designed by Perkins & Will to high medical standards. Early site preparations, including excavation and site leveling, have already been completed ahead of schedule, reflecting progress on the ambitious project. The construction activity is financed through Shariah-compliant loans aligned to Almoosa Health’s growth financing strategy.

Expansion and Capacity Growth

Almoosa Health plans significant capacity growth through this and other projects. The company aims to raise capital via an IPO to fund expansion, targeting an increase of approximately 700 beds across four hospitals by 2028. This includes a 300-bed hospital in Al Hofuf opening by 2027 and the Al Khobar hospital covered in this contract, supporting the broader goal to address the healthcare bed gap in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province. By adding new hospitals and five primary care centers between 2025 and 2027, Almoosa Health seeks to solidify its role as a trusted healthcare provider aligned with Vision 2030 goals.

Healthcare Sector Impact

The expanding infrastructure is critical against Saudi Arabia’s healthcare sector, projected to have a 6.5% annual growth rate to 2030. Almoosa Health currently holds over 51% market share of private post-acute beds in the Eastern Province and services around one million patients annually. The new developments will nearly double bed capacity and clinic count in the region, fulfilling demand and aligning with public health transformation programs. This proactive expansion demonstrates Almoosa Health’s commitment to advancing world-class medical care and strengthening healthcare infrastructure in the Kingdom.

Strategic Positioning

This contract award of $175 million and ongoing growth initiatives underpin Almoosa Health’s vision to boost its footprint and service offering, fully leveraging Saudi Arabia’s rapid healthcare sector evolution and increasing private sector participation. With robust funding and strategic projects underway, Almoosa Health is positioned to remain a leading healthcare operator in the region.
