UAE UK Egypt gas field development is progressing under Arcius, the joint venture formed by ADNOC XRG of the UAE and BP of the UK. The company has confirmed that it is moving forward with a development plan worth about $500 million to advance the Harmattan offshore gas and condensate field in the Eastern Mediterranean. The plan is part of Arcius’ approved multi-year programme with Egypt’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
Arcius was established by the two companies to combine capabilities in exploration and production and to build a shared portfolio in Egypt’s offshore sector.
Project Details and Timeline
The Harmattan plan includes drilling up to three production wells, building a fixed offshore platform, and laying a subsea pipeline of roughly 50 kilometres to onshore processing facilities near Port Said. These details were confirmed in the company’s Egypt work plan presented to officials.
The joint venture has set 2028 as the target for first gas, dependent on drilling progress and installation schedules across the offshore infrastructure.
Government Support
Egypt’s energy authorities have endorsed the Arcius programme, noting that it supports the country’s strategy to increase domestic gas production. Officials stated that cooperation with international partners remains important for developing offshore fields that require large capital investment.
Strategic Value for the Energy Sector
UAE UK Egypt gas field development is expected to add new volumes to Egypt’s future production profile. The commitment of about $500 million reflects ongoing confidence from both ADNOC XRG and BP in Egypt’s offshore potential. Arcius has also said it will continue evaluating nearby exploration prospects as part of its broader five-year plan in the country.
