Saudi Electricity’s $347M Mega-Deal Ignites Soudah Peaks

Saudi Electricity Company, SEC signs SAR 1.3 billion deal through its National Grid subsidiary with Soudah Development for power infrastructure at Soudah Peaks. National Grid handles the design and construction of an integrated electrical network adapted to the Aseer region’s high elevations and harsh climate conditions. This setup powers the entire ultra-luxury mountain tourism destination located 3,015 meters above sea level on Saudi Arabia’s highest peak.

Infrastructure Components

National Grid erects a central 380/132kV transmission substation equipped with 500 MVA capacity. The agreement covers two 132/13.8kV high-voltage substations plus essential electrical interconnections. These systems supply reliable energy to hotels, resorts, chalets, villas, residential units, commercial outlets, and public facilities spread across the project’s zones.

Project Overview

Soudah Development, a Public Investment Fund subsidiary chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, spearheads the Soudah Peaks project. It covers 627 square kilometers in Soudah and Rijal Almaa, restricting construction to less than 1% of the land to preserve the natural environment. Six distinct zones, Tahlal, Sahab, Sabrah, Jareen, Rijal, and Red Rock, feature world-class hotels, luxury mountain resorts, residential chalets, villas, premium mansion sites, entertainment venues, commercial attractions, and outdoor spots for sports, adventure, wellness, and culture.

Timeline and Goals

The masterplan unfolds in three phases, delivering 2,700 hospitality keys, 1,336 residential units, and 80,000 square meters of commercial space by 2033. Phase one targets completion by 2027 with 940 hotel keys, 391 residential units, and 32,000 square meters of retail space. The project expects to attract over two million visitors annually, contribute SAR 29 billion to GDP, and create thousands of jobs while supporting the Saudi Green Initiative. SEC signs SAR 1.3bn deal, ensures power availability from the start to drive Vision 2030 tourism goals.

Leadership Statements

Eng. Saleh AlOraini, Soudah Development CEO, describes the pact as a cornerstone for delivering exceptional ultra-luxury experiences. Eng. Waleed Al-Saadi, National Grid CEO, notes it enhances the Kingdom’s power grid resilience and elevates luxury tourism prospects. This collaboration sets Soudah Peaks as a global leader in sustainable high-altitude destinations.
