WhatsApp launches new service for UAE users on Meta’s platform

In a significant move to enhance user experience and business engagement, Meta’s WhatsApp has introduced several innovative services tailored specifically for users in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This development is part of WhatsApp’s broader strategy to leverage its massive user base and expand its offerings beyond traditional messaging.

WhatsApp Business API

WhatsApp Business API has been a cornerstone for businesses in the UAE, allowing them to communicate effectively with their customers through personalized messages. The API supports various conversations, including Marketing Conversations, Utility Conversations, Authentication Conversations, and Service Conversations. Each type of conversation is designed to cater to different business needs, from promotional messages to customer support.

Pricing Structure

As of 2025, WhatsApp Business API in the UAE operates on a conversation-based pricing model, which is set to transition to a per-message pricing structure starting April 1, 2025, for the first group of API users, and July 1, 2025, for the second group. The current pricing highlights include:

  • Marketing Conversations: Approximately 0.384 USD (1.41 AED) per conversation, ideal for promotional messages, offers, and campaigns.
  • Utility Conversations: Approximately 0.0157 USD (0.058 AED) per conversation, suitable for appointment reminders and delivery notifications.
  • Authentication Conversations: Approximately 0.0178 USD (0.065 AED) per conversation, used for secure verification like OTPs.
  • Service Conversations: Completely free, perfect for customer support and handling queries.

New AI-Driven Tools

Meta has recently unveiled AI-driven tools for businesses on WhatsApp, marking a significant shift in how companies can engage with their customers. These tools include an AI-powered ad targeting program and an AI chatbot designed to answer business inquiries directly in chat.

AI-Powered Ad Targeting

The AI-powered ad targeting program uses user behavior on Facebook and Instagram to deliver targeted messages to users who are most likely to engage. This approach is crucial for businesses as it optimizes ad delivery and ensures that messages reach the right audience, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of marketing efforts.

AI Chatbot

The AI chatbot is designed to assist users with common requests such as locating catalogs or consulting business hours. This tool aligns with existing AI-powered customer service platforms and represents an early test of Mark Zuckerberg’s ambition to persuade businesses to outsource their communications to automated tools.

Impact on UAE Businesses

The introduction of these new services is expected to have a profound impact on businesses in the UAE. Here are some key ways these services will benefit local businesses:

  1. Enhanced Customer Engagement: With AI-driven tools, businesses can now personalize their interactions with customers more effectively. This personalization can lead to higher customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  1. Cost-Effective Communication: The WhatsApp Business API offers a cost-effective way for businesses to manage their communication costs. The free service conversations and affordable utility conversations enable businesses to maintain a strong customer support system without incurring significant expenses.
  1. Increased Efficiency: The AI chatbot can handle routine inquiries, freeing up human resources for more complex and strategic tasks. This automation can significantly improve operational efficiency and reduce response times.

Future Developments

WhatsApp continues to evolve with new features and updates. For instance, starting April 1, 2025, utility template messages sent within a 24-hour customer service window will be free for all businesses. This change will further enhance the cost-effectiveness of using WhatsApp for customer service.

Additionally, WhatsApp is expanding its support for Meta AI, allowing users to interact with AI tools directly within the app. This integration includes features like chatting with ChatGPT on WhatsApp, which opens up new possibilities for both personal and business use.

Preparing for the Future

As WhatsApp continues to innovate, businesses in the UAE should be prepared to leverage these new services to enhance their customer engagement strategies. Here are some steps businesses can take:

  1. Adopt AI-Driven Tools: Businesses should explore how AI-powered ad targeting and chatbots can improve their customer interactions.
  1. Optimize WhatsApp Business API: Businesses should review their current use of the WhatsApp Business API and adjust their strategies to maximize the benefits of the new pricing structure and features.
  1. Stay Updated on WhatsApp Developments: Keeping abreast of the latest updates and features from WhatsApp will help businesses stay competitive and adapt quickly to changing market conditions.

Meta’s WhatsApp is revolutionizing the way businesses in the UAE interact with their customers. With its innovative AI tools and cost-effective pricing structure, WhatsApp is poised to become an indispensable platform for customer engagement and commerce. As technology continues to evolve, it will be exciting to see how WhatsApp adapts and expands its offerings to meet the changing needs of businesses and users alike.
