ADNOC Drilling Wins $733 Million Contract for AI-Enhanced Offshore Rigs

ADNOC Drilling Company has announced a groundbreaking achievement with a $733 million contract from ADNOC Offshore for the construction of three AI-enhanced island drilling rigs. This milestone contract is set to revolutionize operations at the offshore Zakum field, demonstrating ADNOC Drilling’s commitment to innovation and technological advancement.

Cutting-Edge Technology Integration

The newly awarded island rigs will integrate cutting-edge technology and automation, leveraging real-time data to optimize performance, enhance safety standards, and streamline well delivery times. This technological leap positions ADNOC Drilling at the forefront of offshore drilling innovation globally.

Partnership with Honghua Group

Honghua Group (HH) will collaborate closely with ADNOC Drilling in the construction of these advanced rigs. This partnership underscores a shared vision to harness AI, digitization, and advanced technologies to maximize operational efficiency and sustainability in offshore drilling.

Operational Excellence and Design Features

Operating on existing and newly constructed artificial islands at the Zakum field, these AI-enhanced rigs will facilitate extended reach drilling (ERD), enabling the drilling of some of the world’s longest wells from offshore platforms near Abu Dhabi’s coast. Notably, recent achievements include wells exceeding depths of 52,000 feet, showcasing the rigs’ advanced capabilities.

Tayba Abdul Rahim Al Hashemi, CEO of ADNOC Offshore, highlighted the strategic importance of this contract in enhancing ADNOC Drilling’s technical capabilities to meet global energy demands sustainably. The collaboration aims to deliver significant value for stakeholders by integrating AI-driven innovations into offshore drilling operations.

Financial Projections and Fleet Expansion

With a projected capital expenditure of approximately $210 million, these new island rigs are expected to generate revenue starting in 2027. ADNOC Drilling remains optimistic about its 2024 revenue guidance of $200-250 million for the Island rig segment, reflecting confidence in current fleet performance and future growth prospects.

The innovative design features of these rigs include the capability to move between wells without dismantling them, enhancing operational flexibility, safety, and cost-efficiency.
